![]() ![]() The front a-arms had too much positive caster which allowed the front end to push around low speed cornering. The shocks were too soft and adjusting the preload only increased the rebound speed essentially turning them into pogo sticks. As far as suspension goes, I really had a problem with the front end. Very strong motor but the big 700 was extremely corked up (to meet emissions) but the "Big 3"(exhaust,programmer, intake) really woke it up. Most guys are going 4-500 hours before rebuilding the top end but they could certainly go even longer than that. ![]() Honda always seems to have longer lasting wear parts and the motor is as rock solid as any well built honda motor. I'd say the honda is slightly more reliable than the raptor. Others probably have a different opinion, but if I had to keep my 700XX's bone stock, I would get rid of them, I was a little disappointed with the quad in stock form. Of course, this is coming from someone who wants a quad that can handle anything I can throw at it. ![]() if you do the above mods, the 700XX is great on the trails, nice and comfortable and can be pushed if needed. A company called Leighton Racing also makes a sway bar, their smallest diameter one is also a good investment. Buying the adjustable arms makes a huge difference in cornering. The oem front end has a lot of castor, so it has a pretty good push in the slower stuff. Last thing would be to replace the front upper a-arm with Teixeira Tech adjustable arms. Work on all four shocks would also let you lower the quad to help with cornering, they do sit pretty tall from the factory. As far as suspension, at a minimum, I would replace the front shocks (even the cheapest Elka's would be a big improvement.) If you are not much of an aggressive rider, you could probably leave the rear shocks stock, but if you do like to ride hard, replace the rear shocks also, or at least get a revalve/respring for them. In my opinion, to be a "good" trail quad, the 700XX would need a pipe, filter, and fuel controller, just those three mods will really wake up the motor. Now, if you are planning some mods, the IRS on the 700XX is very nice on the trails, much better then a SRA quad. Don't have much time on a Raptor, but if I was going to keep either bone stock, I would probably pick the Raptor. Motor is pretty corked up and the front shocks are horrible. You going to leave them bone stock or put a few mods into them? Bone stock, a 700XX is not all impressive. ![]()
